Golden Byzantium and East Passes 100,000 Visitors

The Deputy Governor of the federal state of Lower Austria, Wolfgang Sobotka, said he was delighted that more than 100,000 people have come to see an exhibit dedicated to the Byzantine culture covering the era from 330 to 1453 A.D. The exhibition, entitled The Golden Byzantium and the East, opened in March and will run through Nov. 4.

The exhibition was hosted at the famous Rennaisance Palaces of Lower Austria and focuses on the vital role the Byzantine Empire played in shaping the future of modern Europe and Constantinople.

It features small icons, ecclesiastical goods, sculptures and paintings, 3-D programs, video features, Byzantine music presentations and interactive projects. According to the Austrian governor, the major scale exhibition attracted many visitors interested in history and many of them had their origins in the then Empire.
