A Memorial Dedicated to the Victims of Genocide in the Ottoman Empire will be Built in Berlin

An ecumenical memorial dedicated to more then 3, 5 million Christians martyred in the Ottoman Empire in the beginning of the 20th century will be built in Berlin. The pre anointment ceremony of the memorial will take place on October 13.

As a prominent German human rights defender, head of the committee for the Genocide recognition Tessa Hoffman informed “Armenpress” they are planning to build an ecumenical memorial dedicated to Christians martyred in the Ottoman Empire in front of the main entrance of Louizen Evangelical Church yard, in the territory of guarded memorials by 2015. There will be an attempt to turn this memorial into the public place of sorrow.

Instead of the accepted ceremony of placing of the cornerstone a pre anointment ceremony and representation of the memorial to the public will be held and first of all to Berlin residents form Armenia, Assyria, Asia Minor, Pontus and Greece on October 13 in 15:00 according to German time. Holy Fathers form Armenian Apostolic Church, Syrian Orthodox Church and Greek Orthodox Church together will say prayers of anointment.

There will be an inscription in languages of all nations who suffered the Genocide on the memorial: “In the Memory of the Martyrs”.
The building of the ecumenical memorial dedicated to more then 3, 5 million Christians martyred in the Ottoman Empire was initiated by a charity public union founded in the beginning of 2012.
