Uncovered Greek Roots of the Dassault Family

The Dassault family is famous across the world. World media has repeatedly referred to them primarily in regards to the French national airlines Air France, the General Aeronautique Marcel Dassault (spacecraft construction company) and of course the well-known newspaper Le Figaro, which the family owns. Media coverage has also focused on Serge Dassau “Dassault Aviation” president whose political action, combined with his son’s position as French Member of the Parliament and the Dassault-Sarkozy relations, have proved really interesting to the public.

What hasn’t been mentioned much in French and international press is the Greek origin of the famous family. It appears that French tycoon Serge Dassau is the descendant of the Allatini family from Thessaloniki.

The Dassau family honors the homeland of their grandfathers by funding the renovation of a cultural events place of the French Institute in Thessaloniki. The inauguration ceremony will take place on June 11 in the presence of Loran Dassau, Serge’s son and Noemi Allatini’s great-grandson. The new exhibition space will be named “Allatini-Dassau,” honoring the Greek origins of the family.
