Greece Joins 13th International Festival of Archaeological Film in Belgrade

The Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Belgrade will participate at this year’s International Festival of Archaeological Film organized by the National Museum of the Serbian capital in cooperation with foreign cultural centres and Embassies in the country.

The 13th International Festival will open on March 26 and all films will be on display until April 4.

Greece is participating this year with two films. The first one is “Garden of the Gods”, directed by Michael Schlamberger. The screenplay belongs to Michael Schlamberger, Herbert Ostwald, Manfred Corrine, and the production to ScienceVision, ORF, in cooperation with Off the Fence and WDR, Austria. The film was produced in 2004 and is 52 minutes long. The basic concept of the film is the correlation between the natural features of the Greek landscape, flora and fauna and the development of Greek mythology, which in its turn has influenced Western literature, philosophy and art. The film will be screened on Tuesday, March 27, at 9pm (second screen: Wednesday, March 28, at 4pm).

The second Greek film is “ΤΟ. PΑ. ΚΕ.” (the word for thorax in the syllabic script of Linear B that pre-dated the Greek Alphabet). The 22 minute-long film is directed by Philippos Koutsaftis, while the screenplay is written by Evangelia Pappi and Koutsaftis. Produced by the 4th Ephorate of Pre-Historic and Classic Antiquities of Greece in 2008, the film has already been praised by the Greek archaeological world. The film presents the chronicles of the discovery of the bronze Mycenaean armor (1500 BC) in the Dendron Cemetery of Argolida, Greece. The film will be screened on Wednesday, April 4, at 8pm (second screen: Thursday, April 5, at 5pm).
