Greek Students Receive Medals At SEEMOUS 2012 In Bulgaria

The Mathematical Society of Southeastern Europe announced the 6th International Mathematical Olympiad for first and second year university students. The Olympiad was hosted by the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, between March 6 and March 11, 2012.

The Greek participation included 5 students from the Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 1 student from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens and a three-member group of students from the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Informatics.

 Konstantinos Zemas, Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, SILVER

Georgios Papas, Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens,SILVER

Stelios Konstantinidis, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, SILVER

Athanasios Tsareas, Department of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens,SILVER

Emmanouil Aggelis, Department of Informatics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, BRONZE

The leader of the Greek team was Professor Iakovos Androulidakis. Moreover, the gold winner Alexandros Eskenazis was also praised for finding a solution for the 4th problem that was extremely difficult, and had not been resolved by anyone.

Finally, countries and universities were awarded this year as well. In particular, Greece secured the 2nd position, while the University of  Athens won the first prize among universities.

It has been decided that the next SEEMOUS in 2012 will be held in Greece.
