Competing against 52 pianists from all across Europe, Israel, Turkey and nations of the former Soviet Union, the Greek pianist Constantinos Destounis was awarded with the second prize during the European Piano Competition, held in Bremen, Germany.
The young pianist performed the first concerto of Tchaikovsky with the Bremen orchestra, a performance that is currently being taped in Germany, along with the performances of the two other winners.
The musical competition was broadcast live by a German radio station, while relatives and friends of Destounis that didn’t make it to the Competition in Bremen watched his performance online.
Constantinos Destounis was born in 1991 and is currently a senior student at the University of Macedonia, Department of Music Science and Art. He has also been granted a scholarship by the Onassis Foundation and he is simultaneously studying piano in France.
Among his achievements, he was also awarded by the Academy of Athens on the 29th of last December in the presence of the Greek Prime Minister, Loukas Papadimos, and he has represented Greece in the European Competition for young pianists in 2010.
