The Greek Tourism Organisation in the New Munich Trade Fair Centre

The Trade Fair Centre, F.re.e., the biggest and most successful exhibition concerning tourism and leisure time activities in Bayern, took place from the 22nd to the 26th of February in Munich, Germany. In that year’s F.re.e, where Slovenia was the honored partner country, 1.200 exhibitors from 50 countries participated, presenting a wide range of offers in various tourism types, travels, sea sports, health, outdoor activities and caravanning. The number of visitors climbed up to 120.000 (while 95.999 in 2011), thus indicating a raise of 25% in comparison with last year’s figures.

The plain and functional Greek information point, covering 200 m², attracted the attention of a large number of visitors, who supplied themselves with brochures and discussed with co-exhibitors of the Greek Tourism Organisation not only their scheduled travel in Greece, but also the present financial state of the country. The reluctance of Germans to visit Greece was obvious, causing distress to the exhibitors.

The German office of the Greek Tourism Organisation successfully organised a welcome event for the visitors of the information point during the first day of the Trade Fair. The Consul General of Greece, Sofia Grammata, spoke with every co-exhibitor, and was informed of the problems that the tourism sector faces, as well as the perspectives of the coming season.

During the Trade Fair, Greek bands from local associations of Munich presented Greek dances from various locales in Greece, thus attracting, with their vividness and joy, the attention and the participation of a large number of visitors.
