Alex Rawlings is only 20 years old and lives in London. He studies German and Russian at the University of Oxford and has been recently identified as the most multilingual student in the UK after winning a national competition.
With his mother being half Greek, Alex started learning English, Greek and some French at an early age. Currently he can speak 11 different languages, including Greek, English, German, Russian, Dutch, Afrikaans, French, Hebrew, Catalan, Italian and Spanish.
Even when he was a child he enjoyed learning different languages and he managed to learn them by listening to CDs and reading books.
In the much watched BBC video showing Alex talking in the languages he has mastered, the young student explains how he learned to speak fluently in so many languages and discusses the other languages he would like to learn in the future.
