New Greek Ambassador Appointed to Sofia

In an official ceremony, the new Greek Ambassador of the Greek Republic to Bulgaria, Mr. Thrasivoulos Stamatopoulos, handed over his credentials on Wednesday to the President of the Balkan country, Rossen Plewneliew.

The new Greek Ambassador to Sofia had recently been the permanent representative of Greece to NATO. Mr. Stamatopoulos, born in 1951, has graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he studied political and economic sciences. Moreover, he pursued his master studies in international realtions in London, the US and Canada.

Over the years, Mr. Stamatopoulos has served in different positions of Greek diplomatic delegations in the US, Egypt and Brussels, while he has also served as president of the Direction for Political Issues of the Macedonia-Thrace Ministry.

Mr. Stamatopoulos has been distinguished for his services by Greece, Albania and Denmark. He speaks fluently English, French and Greek. He is married and the father of two sons and a daughter.
