Βio Product Exports to Germany Could Boost Greek Economy

Imports of biological products to Germany have been on the rise for the past few years, but Greece is not present in this very economically interesting market, although it certainly does not lack the potential.

The domestic production capacity of Germany is not enough to cover the increased demand for biological products, and it is estimated that from 2008 until 2010 imports of biological products have doubled (more particularly, cereals imports increased by 65% and fresh fruits by 100%).

According to a report signed by Mrs. Christina Stefanidou, advisor for Economic and Commercial Matters in the Greek Embassy to Germany, the leading countries exporting biological products to Germany are Egypt, Italy and Israel. 50% of the bio carrots come from Holland and Israel, while there is an increase in demand for potatoes. Products are also being imported by Austria, Portugal, Spain and Argentina.
