Funeral Ceremony Held for Legendary Fenerbahce Greek-Turkish Player Lefter

The funeral ceremony of Lefter Küçükandonyadis was held at the Fenerbahce soccer team’s Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the ceremony, which brought the supporters of Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Besiktas and Trabzonspor teams together. 10,000 people participated in the ceremony held for Küçükandonyadis, who was later laid to rest in Buyukada. Kucukandonyadis died at the age of 86.

Lefter was recognised as one of the greatest footballers to play for Turkey. Küçükandonyadis scored in all a total of 423 goals in 615 games for Fenerbahçe. After ending his career in Turkey in 1964, Küçükandonyadis played a single season in Greece with AEK Athens. He participated in five games in the 1965 season, scoring two goals before an injury in the match against Iraklis forced his retirement.
