New Bid to Open Free Greek Orthodox School in North London

After the British government had delayed the opening plans of St Andrew The Apostle Greek Orthodox School due to some problems in its proposal last year, the School is expected to submit its new proposal to the Department for Education in February 2012.

If approved this time, the secondary school will be open in September 2013 and serve students aged between 11 and 18 from the boroughs of Barnet and Enfield, as well as from the wider Greek Orthodox Community in North London.

The St Andrew School is supported both by academy sponsor Russell Education Trust and the senior Greek Orthodox figures including Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain.

Although 50% of the new school’s students would be from a Greek Orthodox background, local pupils with other or no religious beliefs are also welcomed.

The School Committee will announce possible school building locations in March, if the new proposal is approved by the government.
