Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 to Hold Greek-Turkish Basket-Battles

Greek-Turkish basket-battles will be taking place at this year’s Euroleague Turkish Airlines after the Top 16 Draw has been announced in Barcelona, Spain. All teams share the same goal: arriving in Istanbul in May with the chance to win two more games and enter the history books as European champions.

More specifically, Olυmpiacos Piraeus will be facing CSKA Moscow, Efes Istanbul and Galatasaray MP, which means the Greek representative team and the Turkish ones will meet in the basketball court at least 4 times. From this Group, the teams with the best two records  will move on to the next phase and will play against the respective teams of the F Group (Real Madrid, Siena, Unicaja, Gescrap BB).

Another Greek-Turkish game emerged in the G Group too. Greek and European champion holder Pantahinaikos will be playing against the relatively good basketball team of Fenerbahce, while the group also includes Armani Milan and Unics Kazan.

The teams with the best two records will face the first two of Group H, which consists of Barcelona, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Cantu and Zalgiris.

Every group will feature six games per team in a round-robin setup from January 16 through March 1. The four Playoffs winners move on to the Final Four, May 11 and 13 at Sinan Erdem Arena in Istanbul, Turkey.

The draw on Wednesday was attended by representatives from all 16 participating teams as well as by Euroleague Basketball sponsors, representatives of the Turkish Basketball Federation and media members from across Europe. The draw was also broadcast on local TV and via Euroleague.net to audiences around the world.
