Cypriot Concert to be Hosted at Friends of Music Hall in Vienna

Artists from Cyprus and Greece will join the big concert entitled “Winter Concert-The music of love” to be hosted at Friends of Music Hall in Vienna on Friday, December 16.

The concert’s main aim is to promote Cyprus and its culture, as well as to strengthen the cultural and not only relations between Austria and the Republic of Cyprus.

The event is held within the framework of the circle of “Cypriots’ Concerts” and under the aegis of the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture.

Minister of Education, Mr. George Demosthenous dedicated the concert to the lately deceased Metropolitan of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Mid-Europe Michael, who had become symbol of the Greek Orthodoxy in central Europe for the past two decades and had always supported Cyprus and the Cypriot Cultural Centre in Vienna.

Famous artists will perform in the coming concert, such as Cypriot baritone Kyros Paschalidis, Cypriot soprano Zoe Nikolaidou, Cypriot soprano Katerina Kouri, tenor Giannis Christopoulos and the “Orpheus Chamber Music” ensemble, mainly consisting of Greek musicians living and working in Austria and under the guidance of Greek pianist and orchestra leader, Konstantinos Diminakis.

During the concert at the Vienna Concert Hall, which was erected by the great Greek patron Nikolaos Doumpas, the artists will perform excerpts from works by major composers Mozart, Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti, as well as by Greek composers Nikos Chatziapostolou and Theofrastos Sakellarides. Moreover, “The Waltz of Hope” by Cypriot composer Stelios Pissis and the work “The Beardless” of Cypriot composer George Kyrvellos will be performed in the concert.
