Bulgarian Farmers Try Greek Tricks

Bulgarians farmers having decided to follow the example of their Greek colleagues, went out to protest taking their tractors for a might. Hundreds of agricultural machines from all over the country headed towards the Danube Bridge and Kapitan Andreevo border check points. Some roads were blocked for a while.

“We do not want to oust the Cabinet, we just want a fair financial framework for the agriculture in Budget 2012 as we have agreed – 520 million levs,” said Krassimir Avramov, head of the Thracian Union of Farmers.

“We were used in the election campaign and we want an apology from vice Premier Simeon Djankov. Our branch returns in Bulgarian economy over 1.5 billion leva. Paying ground rent between 500 and 800 leva we stimulate internal consumption, Kiril Zhendov president of Dobrudzha Union of Grain-producers and lease holder stated. The farmers sent a letter to PM Boyko Borissov, Finance Minister Simeon Djankov and Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov in which they introduce the objective of their protest. For today farmers have planned to block roads and border check-points. The protest might move to the capital

“We are expecting instructions from the National Strike Committee to leave for Sofia with the tractors,” Zarko Ivanov announced. In two days will be known the exact day.
