Greek Minority to Boycott Inventory Process

Greek Minority Organization, ‘Omonoia’ in collaboration with the Vlach Community and the Organizations of Serbian and Slav Minorities have announced their unanimous decision concerning the imminent inventory.  They have decided to boycott the inventory process on 8th October.

The President of Omonoia, Vassilis Bolanos (see pic.), stated during a press conference that the inventory related law does not fulfill the international standards.”We conclude, that this inventory does not aim to reveal the accurate number of minorities. On the contrary, aims to “shrink” them artificially”, Vassilis Bolanos said.

Previously, the Greek Parliament adopted an amendment concerning the inventory  law, adding a relevant amendment that provides a penalty of 1,000 euros for everyone furnishing false nationality information deliberately. These amendments proposed by the political party PDIO, known as “tsamides”, were considered to be absurd and an act of violation of every citizen’s right of self-determination.

Within the inventory process, Albanian citizens are expected to select 9 questions to answer related to their home, 8 questions concerning the current financial situation of themselves and 40 questions about personal data, including two optional questions (about the nationality and religion). The remaining 38 questions from this group are mandatory.
