U.S. Ambassador Meets Ecumenical Patriarch in Turkey

In a very positive atmosphere the meet between the Ambassador of the United States to Ankara, Francis Ricciardone and the Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew has been completed on Tuesday in Phanar. The American diplomat has visited the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church, in order to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Francis Ricciardone, accompanied by his wife and colleagues, discussed the first in hierarchy as well as the Orthodox Church. It is widely known that the American Government and diplomats take a continuous interest in the Ecumenical Patriarchate and matters relating to respect for minority rights and religious freedoms.

Furthermore, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Mexico, Metropolitan Emmanuel of France and Protopresbyter Alexandros Karloutsos were also present for the meeting.

The U.S. Ambassador’s diplomatic career started 32 years ago, when he was on the service of Turkey. He worked for the US Embassy. His third tenure in Ankara is going to be completed soon, something that makes the U.S. Ambassador a great observer of the Turkish reality.
