Thessaloniki-Stuttgart Cycling Race for Rehabilitation Centers and the Association of Cancer Patients

A cycling race from Thessaloniki to Stuttgart starts today, September 26 in support of the German Association of Cancer Patients to raise awareness for rehabilitation centers for handicapped and patients with chronic illnesses.

The initiative belongs to the German insurer ”Deutsche Rentenversicherung (DRV) Baden Wuerttemberg”. The cycling race will end on September 10 in the capital of Baden Württemberg, Stuttgart.

“We want to show what is possible,” says the president of the association Hubert Saiters who participates in this year’s 16th cycling race. The Secretary for Health, Hans Joachim Fuchtel, MP of the German parliament will also join the race. The aim is to demonstrate that rehabilitation centers contribute to reintegrating the disabled and chronic sick in society and work. Especially for these categories, the sport is very important for their quality of life, emphasize the organizers.

The Association of Cancer Patients of  Baden-Württemberg initiated the event. The money collected from donations will go to the program ”Sports and Cancer”.

After cyclists leave Thessaloniki, their next major stop is Sandanski, Bulgaria and the ride will continue through Serbia, Croatia and Hungary to Vienna. From there, cyclists will continue across the Danube passing through Bayern until they reach their final destination, Stuttgart.

The insurer DRV-Baden Wuerttemberg covers 6.6 million members and pays pensions to 1.5 million pensioners.
