Foreign Minister Goes to Imvros

Greek Foreign Minister, Stavros Lmabrinidis is the first Greek Foreign Minister to visit the island Imvros.

Mr. Lambrinidis participated in the celebrations in honor of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who celebrates his 50 years in priesthood and 20 years serving as Patriarch.

The Greek Minister noted hat ”There have been hardships over the years. I am here to tell you that we stand by your side, no matter what, we do not forget you. May positive steps have been made on behalf of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan. We will continue the efforts to improve the relationships of the nations.” At the end he added that ”Turkey’s approach to the EU has played a significant role. The full integration of Turkey into the EU meeting all relevant criteria will be beneficial for Greece”.

The Foreign Minister said that after the second World War and the Treaty of Lausanne,  many property confiscations and restrictions in the operation of minority schools have been made .

Imvriots try hard to keep their traditions and customs alive, bringing family when they can to visit.
