Turkey Hopes in Uniting Cyprus by the End of the Year

The Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said after his meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu that Turkey hopes they will reach an agreement for a united Cyprus by the end of the year, in order to carry out a referendum at the beginning of 2012. Thus, Cyprus will take over the EU presidency as a new state representing the island as a whole.
Cyprus responded by inviting Mr. Eroglu and the rest of the Turkish politicians to work for a solution of the Cyprus Question, following the agreements and attending the negotiations with useful proposals instead of visiting illegally the occupied territories of Cyprus. He stated that the Turkish politivians were taking advantage of different landmarks for blackmail. It depends on the Turks if there will be soon a United Republic of Cyprus.
Cyprus takes over EU presidency the second semester of 2012.
