Greek Student Found Dead in Bulgaria Hours Before Graduation

A 30-year-old student majoring in Pharmacy at the University of Bulgaria was found dead on 8 July, only hours before attaining his university degree. His parents who are from Kalamafka Ierapetra and stay permanently in Agios Nikolaos, were informed by the Greek Consulate in Bulgaria that their son had died in a road accident, for which he bore no responsibility.

The parents had spoken to him for the last time on Wednesday. Since then, they had tried to contact the 30-year-old student many times, but he did not answer his mobile phone. The family became very concerned and after contininous calls, eventually, a woman (an employee of the Greek Consulate) answered the phone on Thursday.

His death occurred just hours before he was to complete his studies and return to Crete to work in the field of pharmacy. The young man’s brother-in-law, flew to Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and visited the city hospital in which the man was transferred after the fatal accident. He identified the body and arranged for its transfer to Crete.
