Μaria Thanassa: Promoting Greek Art in the UK

Maria Thanassa is a literary translator, critic, and artistic director of EKON festival of contemporary Greek arts. She set up EKON three years ago to challenge the way Greek culture is perceived in the UK.

She first came to England from Greece, when she was six, when her father was transferred to Surrey. This experience completely changed her life, and was the beginning of a life-long love affair with the English language and culture.
EKON festival is aiming to become a landmark in unveiling and promoting contemporary Greek arts in the UK. The festival’s program includes an array of performances – live art, dance theatre, multi-media, contemporary classical music, operatic staged performance, experimental and electronic music, audio-visual experiences.
