“Jongleur” Sculpture by Greek Artist Mark Hadjipateras Placed in Berlin

The sculpture “Jongleur” by Greek artist Mark Hadjipateras has been placed at Wittenbergplatz.  This is one of the busiest central squares in Berlin, in front of the world famous shopping centre KaDeWe (photo), within the framework of the artist’s first exhibition in Germany at the Berlin Branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.
The large-scale bronze sculpture Jongleur, 4 m. in height, seems to converse with the forms around the central fountain at Wittenbergplatz square, displaying its acrobatic abilities.
Maybe because the message to be transmitted is that today, the political leaders are trying to maintain stability demanded by the governments, the foreign affairs policy, dealing with migration issues, globalization and diversity; in the same way that the citizens are asked to make choices and establish balances in their private lives.
The first solo exhibition of Mark Hadjipateras in Germany presents a cross-section of his work.  It includes paintings, sculptures and photography. The exhibition at the HFC Branch in Berlin features sculptures, installations and works on paper.  The works focus on the metropolis and its inhabitants. Dadaist sand castles, minimal ceramic cities, anthropological robots, and other ventures in modern and imagined civilization. The exhibition is curated by Maia Gianakos.
The exhibition at the HFC in Berlin and the installation at Wittenbergplatz square will be on view until the end of January 2011.
