Greek Researchers Funded by European Research Council

Several promising Greek researchers are included in the ERC catalogue.  The catalogue features 427 European researchers in total who were selected for funding by the Council in order to promote their innovative scientific work in cutting  edge research areas. It is worth noting that the minority (three researchers) come from Greek universities, while the remaining eight Greek entries came from non – Greek universities where they are also doing their research, following their post-graduate studies. This is yet another clear indication of the brain drain phenomenon in Greece, originating from the scientists’ decision to live and work abroad. This year’s applications were mainly from British university or research institutes (79), followed by France (71), Germany (67) and Switzerland (27). Greece, with three researchers holds the 18th place.  If the researchers’ nationality is taken into account (regardless of the country where research takes place), Greece holds the 10th place, with 11 researchers of Greek origin.

The Greek researchers included in the list are:
– Emmanouil Tsakiris, Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, “The Plasticity of the Self: Experimenting with Self-Identity in the Face of Change”
