Sotheby’s Recent Greek Auction Generates 4.6 Million Euros

Sotheby’s continues to dominate the Greek art market. A recent auction totalled 4.6 million euros; significantly more than any other auction house.
The November 22nd Greek sale offered a selection of major works by 19th Century artists such as Georgios Jakobides, Theodoros Ralli, Constantinos Volanakis and Nikolaos Gysis.  It included paintings by 20th Century masters such as Spyros Papaloukas, Constantinos Maleas, Panagiotis Tetsis, Alecos Fassianos and Pavlos.

Konstantinos Fragkos, senior Director of the Sotheby’s Greek sale underlined that the works of Gkikas, Rallis and Tsarouxis, were sold at very high prices.  Fragkos mentioned that due to the fiscal crisis, there were only a few wealthy people that took part in the auction.
