Greek Literature Night in Berlin

The Young Euro Classic, a Festival of Classic Music for young people that takes place in Berlin, organized a Greek literature night entitled: “Ode to Greece: thank you for encouraging us to take a fresh look at Europe”.

The Literature night took place in the Konzerthaus in Berlin. Three young authors from Germany, Slovakia and Slovenia read their works that they wrote inspired by the financial crisis in Greece. Although the event was in the line of the Festival of Classic Music, the music from Alexis Zorbas reminded of a Greek tavern. The room turned into a Greek tavern with tables, “mezes” and “retsina”.

The event was subsidized by BMW. Marcus Hipp, the Executive Director, had just return from his vacations in Greece and he was like a tourist who goes in a tavern on a Greek island.  He spoke about the books he read during his vacations in Greece and he also told about the author Petros Markaris: “If you want to learn the reason for the financial crisis in Greece, the corruption, but also why the Greeks are so lovely, you should read the books of Markaris. They are translated in German too. I have already read three of them. I can say I’m enthusiastic about Greece although they rook the tourists.
