Swedish dairy offers deal with Greek man over mistaken nationality

A small Swedish dairy has offered to pay some 2 million kronor (270,000 dollars) to a Greek man who featured in a photo on its yoghurt packaging, reports said Wednesday.
The man had initially wanted the family-owned dairy, Lindahls Mejeri, to pay 50 million kronor after it used his image on a package for the company’s Turkish yoghurt.
A company spokesman in April told the German Press Agency dpa that the sum was ‘preposterous,’ and roughly equalled the annual sales of all the yoghurt the company sells.
Stockholm daily Expressen reported Wednesday that the dairy hoped the 77-year-old pensioner would accept the offer, and thereby avert a legal case in Greece.
‘It is still a lot of money,’ managing director Anders Lindahl told Expressen. ‘We have invested a lot in him as a trademark during the past eight years.’
Lindahl said the dairy planned to seek compensation from the photo agency that provided the image.
