The three political party leaders of Britain, David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg, are battling with all their weapons, just a few days prior to the parliamentary elections on May 6. One of these weapons is the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece.
Before the rise of Tony Blair, the Labour Party had indicated it was in favour of the return, although the British Museum subsequently categorically denied this.
According to the Greek daily newspaper, “Eleftherotypia”, when Nick Clegg was a Euro deputy (1999-2004), he had support the campaign, Parthenon 2004”. He is now championing the return of the marbles to Greece, saying so quite opening, as quoted in the British newspaper, “Sunday Express” (25 /4/ 2010).
