New gallery at World Museum Liverpool explores Ancient Greeks

Liverpool’s World Museum has revealed a new display focussing on the Ancient Greeks and the wide influence their era still has across the modern world.
More than 150 exhibits from the World Museum’s remarkable collections help tell the story of a society which grew from virtually nothing to become arguably the greatest and most influential civilisation on earth.
Artefacts include an impressive array of statuary depicting the Greek gods, goddesses and mythical heroes. Athena (warfare and wisdom), Artemis (hunting), Aphrodite (love and beauty) and Nike (victory, strength and speed) all feature.
Zeus, the King of the Gods, also makes an appearance together with Apollo (music and arts), Eros (love and passion) and Dionysos (wine and theatre). Hero Herakles is depicted killing the Nemean Lion.
The Ancient Greek way of life is explored through an impressive collection of decorated pots together with tiny ornaments and jewellery demonstrating their artistic and creative skills.
Together these remarkable objects offer an insight into how Greek civilisation has spent thousands of years dominating all aspects of cultural life, from politics and philosophy to science and art.
