Greek pop queen Elena Paparizou has been voted to represent Greece as one of 21 nominees from across Europe for the award Best European Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009.
This follows her being voted as the Best Greek act of 2009 by Greek pop fans.
The other Greek nominees to represent Greece as the Best Greek Act at the 2009 European Music Awards were Matisse, Monika, Professional Sinnerz and Onirama.
Lovers of Greek pop now have the opportunity to vote for Elena Paparizou at www.mtvema.com in an attempt to get Paparizou into the final list of five artists who will be considered for the award as Best European Act at the Europe Music Awards.
The top five candidates will be announced on November 2.
The actual winner of the Best European Act will be chosen by the MTVaudience and will be presented at the award ceremony, which will broadcast live from Berlin on November 5.
MTV Greece’s director general Yiannis Lambropoulos is ecstatic to be sending Elena as a nominee to the pre-awards, “I would like to congratulate Elena Paparizou and wish her good luck, because the truth is that the race has just begun.
“It is true that a distinction in the awards institution is an excellent primer to promote an artist and an opportunity for Elena to view the European music scene.
MTV will be once again be a ‘window’ of Greece to the world. Good luck Elena from the whole MTV Greece crew!”
Paparizou thanked her fans and MTV Greece for their support. She also displayed good sportsmanship in entering the competition with her European counterparts, “It’s a great honour for me that the Greek audience chose me for MTV’s Best Greek Act and I am very grateful to those who voted and to MTV. It is also important that other candidates participate in this great music festival on MTV and continue to represent the Greek pop scene in Europe. I hope to win, although I feel that I must not compete against the other candidates, but compete with them.”
The MTV Europe Music Awards are easily one of the most spectacular live music events today.
Among the star-studded list of performers this year are; The Foo Fighters, Green Day, Leona Lewis, Shakira and Tokyo Hotel.
Katy Perry will be hosting the awards and the list of presenters is quite impressive as it includes the Backstreet Boys, Juliette Lewis and Jean Reno to name only a few.
