Having attacked the Republican opposition party, he opened fire on BBC, CNN and Reuters, calling the media to show this image as well,” referring to the crowd in Kazlıçeşme Square.

Erdogan also targeted the Eu by referring to Greece. Concerning the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on the situation in Turkey, Erdogan called on Europeans, “Do not exceed your limits. You are not competent to issue decisions on Turkey. We do not recognize your decision. Turkey is currently not a member of the EU. If you are honest, you have to know that in Greece there were also demonstrations and incidents where civilians were killed, but you gave them financial assistance of billions of euros.”

In front of a million followers, Erdogan said, “I am the best prime minister you could have”, attacking students and the social media and did not hesitate to admit that he is watching everyone and everything.

He said about students who participated in the riots, “We have information on them and their data, and university professors who were also there will never see the classroom again.”

According to a statement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Friday: “It is understood that the Greek Cypriot government has recently started second drilling activities to search for hydrocarbon reserves in its so-called exclusive economic zone known as Parcel 12. This activity is the continuation of Greek Cyprus’ irresponsible, provocative and unilateral moves in the region in disregarding the rights of North Cypriot Turks on these reserves.”

The ministry in March issued a statement regarding the energy row, stressing that a two-state solution was an option if the Greek side wasn’t willing to cooperate with the Turkish Cypriots in the north.

The only solution according to the Turkish Cypriots, was the establishment of a committee of both Turkish and Greek Cypriots representatives, along with the United Nations, over the determination on how the hydrocarbon reserves of the island should be used.

The European Commission has no right to criticize Turkey about the ongoing riots in Istanbul and across the country, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, unleashing a harsh attack on leaders of the bloc he wants his country to join.

Responding to the European Union’s recommendations concerning the excessive use of violence by the police during the suppression of the anti-government demonstrations, Erdogan asked of the European Parliament “how dares” it to criticize Turkey, suggesting it should take care of debt-crushed Greece instead.

Erdogan also mentioned the violent incidents that took place in Greece during the anti-memorandum protests saying that the EU should first check these categories.

“The European Parliament’s decisions are ‘non-binding’ for Turkey, which is not a member of the European Union,” he said, speaking during a meeting of his Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Erdogan made a personal attack on the European Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Füle, with whom he was met a few days ago in Istanbul.

Erdogan said he was irritated because after their 30-minute meeting, on the sidelines of the conference on EU-Turkey relations, Füle chose to use Twitter to declare he was “disappointed by the lost opportunity of the conference in Istanbul to communicate with those who call for respect”.

The Turkish leader also laced into the leader of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda, who had called him and urged him to stop sending police against protesters angry that the main square of Istanbul is being uprooted of trees and turned into a shopping mall, depriving the city of one of its last green spaces.

At the same time, Erdogan issued “final warning” to protesters, giving them a 24-hour ultimatum to leave from Taksim Square, because, he said, “Our patience is at an end. I am making my warning for the last time. I say to the mothers and fathers please take your children in hand and bring them out. We cannot wait any more because Gezi Park does not belong to the occupants, but to the people,” he added.

The issue is cited in the newspaper Hurriyet, entitled “Will the Church come to the surface?” The article associates the issue with Erdogan’s latest statement saying that, “There will be works to open the space in front of the church in Taksim Square and the stores there before the church are going to be expropriated in order to show the church of the Holy Trinity. Also a mosque will be constructed in Taksim.”

Hurriyet also said that people’s interest has turned to the shops belonging to the Greek hospital Valouklis, and that is because the renting out of shops of charitable institutions, ranging between 10,000 and 100,000 liras, is one of the greatest revenues of the charitable foundation of the Valouklis hospital. Among the stores, except for fast food, there are grocery stores, optical shops etc. In total there are 25 shops. The rent of the smaller stores reaches 10,000 to 12,000 liras and these stores are a great source of revenue for the Valouklis hospital.

They are expected to be interrogated about the role they played in the demonstrations.

The arrested is a postgraduate student named Giorgos Iatridis, who is in Turkey on the Erasmus program (European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students). According to information from the Greek Consulate in Istanbul, the Greek student is in good health and is being represented by a lawyer.

The Greek Consul General in Istanbul stated that nobody with a Greek diplomatic passport has been arrested, according to the Turkish newspaper Zaman.

As reported in the Turkish newspapers Hurriyet and Radical, four Americans, two British, two Iranians, an Indian, a French and a Greek have been arrested by the Turkish authorities and are charged with inciting demonstrations in Gezi Park.

Four of the foreign citizens arrested are students visiting Turkey on the Erasmus program, according to sources. There is no official confirmation of the arrests by the Turks.

The protest that began in order to prevent the demolition of Taksim Gezi Park in Istanbul turned into a massive anti-government demonstration after the Turkish riot police tried to violently break up a sit-in in the square. Thousands of protestors have been taking to the streets since June 1, while the Turkish police are using extended violence and brutality to disperse the crowds.

More than 1,000 protesters have been injured during the demonstrations and two have lost their lives, as announced by Amnesty International. According to sources, a third protester died, as he suffered serious head injury during the demonstrations.

Soon enough thousands of protestors took the streets on June 1 and the Turkish police fired tear gas canisters and water cannons to disperse the crowds.

The Greek minority living and working in Istanbul was also affected by the turbulent events, as noted by an eye witness to a Greek news agency. Talking to NewsIt.gr, a resident of Istanbul Ms. Christina revealed that the Turkish police fired tear gas and chemicals indiscriminately right outside the Greek diaspora school Zappeio within which were Greek children. The tear gas war forced both children and the staff to stay inside the school for quite a long time and even when they did finally come out the children felt the awful consequences of the suffocating atmosphere.

As noted by Ms. Christina things in this part of the city were particularly dangerous, since the Diaspora school features also a kindergarten and preschool facility. The Church of the Holy Trinity as well as a nursery are located close to the Zappeion School. According to information, the Greek consulate called the police’s headquarters to inform them that the chemicals pose a threat to the children’s health, but the answer was that the police were following commands and there was nothing to be done.

As revealed by Ms. Christina the same situation prevailed opposite the Greek school where the school of the Armenians is situated, and noted that there were protesters outside, just a few people running away, but the police kept on firing chemicals.

According to Ms. Christina most Greeks in the city live around Taksim Square, which has been at the center of demonstrations and events for the past 48 hours. Most Greeks have fled their homes to the outskirts of the city.

The ship is 200m long and has a capacity of 180 TIR trucks and 100 vehicles and the suggestion mainly concerns Turkey’s wish to operate a floating hospital.

Agapitos said, “The situation in Greece is well-known. We cannot find a working area.” The ship-owner contacted the Turkish Embassy in Athens last month and made the proposition to sell the ship. Agapitos held a one-and-a-half-hour conversation with the Turkish Ambassador to Greece, Kerim Uras, who assured him that he will forward his request to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Due to the economic crisis we cannot find cargoes to transfer and it is not right for such an important ship to stay still. This ship was selected The Ship of the Year for 2000. This ship is not suitable for journeys among the Greek islands, because it is very fast.”

According to the same newspaper, in the last two years, Turkish businessmen have bought more than 120 luxury yachts from Greece.
