Romania: Events Commemorating the 25th March National Anniversary

With the initiative of the Greek Community of the Romanian city – that unites 2,000 Greeks – a big event was organized in the Museum of Braila on the occasion of the 25th March National Anniversary.

The Director of the museum, Professor Ionel Cante, gave an interesting speech referring to the Hellenic presence in Romanian territories from the 16th until the 19th century. “Solidarity with Greece” was the main subject of Charalambos Karabia’s speech, the active president of the Greek Community. The end of the ceremony was marked by Greek traditional dances.

A doxology service was held on Sunday at the Greek Orthodox Evangelismos Church in memory of the Greek and Romanian heroes of the War of Independence in 1821 and the founders of the church. Following this, the chamber “Anisia Piearatoy” was inaugurated in the headquarters of the Greek Community of Braila.

The events took place in collaboration with the Cultural Diversity Centre of Braila Museum, where an archive with literary, photographic and audiovisual files showing the Greek cultural and historical contribution in the city’s development is being created.
