Law Amendments About Mass Dismissals

kegeroglouuThe Deputy Minister of Labor Vasilis Kegeroglou referred in Parliament to the legislation concerning mass layoffs. According to the newspaper “TA NEA” he states: ” The current legislative framework is outdated and that real protection is only available when the market and economy function under normal circumstances.
The International Labor Office is about to submit a plan to the government in order for it to put the renovations in place.
He proceeded: “Change was needed, since the current economic climate has allowed employers to take advantage of the current bankruptcy code.”
Maria Bolari, MP of SYRIZA, says: “Thanks to the bankruptcy code many employees were unable to claim their slashed compensation packages and apply for unemployment benefit. The “exceptional circumstances” cited by the deputy minister only apply to employees who had been paying their contributions for years.”
The Labor Minister, Mr. Ioannis Vroutsis states: “Although the ‘sustainability of the insurance system’ is a very important factor to be considered, main pensions will not be cut.”
