Visa Requirement for Post-Brexit Brits Could Hurt Greek Tourism

Greek hoteliers and others connected to the tourist trade could see a sharp fall in British visitors if post-Brexit visa fees being suggested in Europe, come into effect.

According to documents seen by MEPs and the Politico Europe news site, the European Commission is envisaging plans which would see British people require a visa to enter the EU.

Such visas could cost anywhere up to £52/€60/$69, British media are reporting.

The proposals come under “Brexit preparedness” measures being looked into by the EU. Talks between the EU and U.K. are ongoing, and it remains to be seen if the visas will be introduced for U.K. nationals.

However, introducing any visa fee for British people seeking to travel to Greece in summer would likely have a negative effect on visitor numbers.

Greek premier Alexis Tsipras will be in the U.K. on Monday and Tuesday this week for talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May.
