Betty Harlafti Travels to Switzerland to Perform Works by Mikis Theodorakis

Betty HarlaftiBorn in Athens, Greece, Betty Harlafti has traveled the world giving concerts in everything from encompassing Greek composers, lyrical performances, traditional Greek music such as rebetiko and jazz.

Although the Greek Mezzo-soprano is perhaps best known for her collaboration with the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis she has proven that no matter what the genre, Betty has been hailed with the ability to “dazzle” audiences, as critics at The National Herald once said.

Now the talented singer is traveling to Switzerland to perform and she is bringing the work of Mikis Theodorakis to the stage on November 12 in Lausanne.

The trip to Switzerland follows performances in New York and the heart of Manhattan where she was invited to perform songs by Mikis Theodorakis.

A press release states that she will be accompanied by the acclaimed pianist Yannis Belonis, a close collaborator of Mr. Theodorakis and his Orchestra for the past few years. Their coexistence guarantees a unique and explosive artistic effect.

The two artists, who are invited by the Hellenic Association of Lausanne Estia, will perform at Salle Paderewski in Lausanne a selection of works by Mikis Theodorakis. It will be an evening honoring one of the greatest living artistic personalities of the second half of the 20th century. Betty Harlafti is the only artist of the younger generation who has been chosen by the composer to be close to him and in collaboration with his Orchestra in recent years.

The recital is part of a series of activities scheduled by the artist promoting her new album with works by Mikis Theodorakis and Yannis Belonis’ inspiring arrangements. The album will be released early in 2017 and is being produced under the composer’s guidance.
