Joint Greek-Bulgarian Traffic Control Teams in Border Regions

Greek-BulgarianJoint teams of Bulgarian and Greek police are to control traffic in the regions of the border between the two countries from August 5 to October 30, 2016, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry said.

During this time, the teams will monitor the roads for speeding motorists, hazardous overtaking, drunk-driving, smuggling of goods and the transport of people without valid residence papers and will check the validity of the documents of drivers and vehicles, the Interior Ministry said.

Joint inspections will be carried out in the regions of the border checkpoints at Kulata – Promachonas, Ilinden – Exochi, Svilengrad – Ormenio, Ivailovgrad – Kyprinos, Zlatograd – Termes and Makaza – Nymphaea.

In accordance with a set schedule, Bulgarian traffic police will participate in checks in Greece, while their Greek colleagues will take part in patrolling teams from the regional directorates of Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry in Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kurdhzali and Smolyan.

The police cars used in the checks will be equipped with video equipment and audio tape, according to the Interior Ministry. The police involved will wear their national uniforms. Police from the neighbouring country will have observer status while law enforcement will be carried out by the staff from the host country, the Interior Ministry said.
