Authorities Arrest Greek Anti-Authoritarians for Incidents in Milan

milanFive Greek anti-authoritarians are being persecuted by Italian authorities with an international arrest warrant for their involvement in violent episodes. The incident in question occurred on May 1 in Milan during the protest against the international exhibition Expo Milano 2015.

According to the Greek police, the four men were arrested on the morning of Thursday, November 12, at their homes in Agia Paraskevi, Athens. Another person is still wanted by the authorities. The people who were arrested will be brought before the prosecutor, today, Friday November 13. It should be noted that one day after the incidents in Milan, Italian authorities arrested 14 Greeks for a compulsory DNA sampling. Among them were the 4 four men who were arrested in Athens.

The anti-authoritarians were suspects in a case involving a protest entitled No Expo. During the protest, masked men set fire to cars and caused damage to shops and banks. In fact, the incident was so severe that it caused a political crisis in Italy, when Prime Minister Matteo Renzi verbally attacked rioters, calling them “rich, spoiled brats who wear Rolex watches,” while the opposition asked for the resignation of Interior Minister, Angelino Alfano.

The Italian lawyer of the 14 Greeks explained that they were not arrested, but were brought in to ascertain their identity information. He also confirmed that the authorities had taken DNA samples. “The Italian police have not informed us about whether any evidence exists against them,” he added.

In Greece, the case was initially undertaken by the Police Headquarters Directorate of Police Cooperation, while the warrants, issued two days ago, were executed on Thursday by the Security Division of Attica.
