Former Greek King Sells London House to Move to Greece

king-constantine-2-800The last king of Greece, Constantine Glucksburg, is leaving his long time residency in London, UK, and is planning to return to Greece.

Glucksburg was Greece’s king from 1964 to 1973. Much of his reign was during the Greek military dictatorship that was instilled in April 1967 and fell in 1974. Glucksburg was actually forced to exile after attempting a coup on the dictatorship in late 1974 but kept his position as monarch until 1973.

Glucksburg has often been accused for not resisting the commanders’ uprising in April 1967. Following the dictatorship’s downfall, Greeks overwhelmingly voted for the abolition of monarchy through a plebiscite.

The former king had owned the house since 1969 and had first left for Greece back in 2013. It is unknown where exactly in the country he will be residing.
