Greek Businesswoman Named Manager of the Year

Virginia_Green_bDr. Virginia Green (Virginia Giovanoudi) is a Greek businesswoman who has been part of many high-profile German companies from the beginning of her career. Green, founder and CEO of ENCOS, was named Manager of the Year 2014 by TUV Nord, a group with over 10,000 employees in more than 70 countries across Europe, Asia, America and Africa.

Green was born in northern Greece, in the town of Didymoteicho, and migrated to Germany at the age of 18 in order to study at the University of Dortmund, focusing on chemical technology. Before starting her PhD, she worked for petroleum company Esso.

After climbing her way to the top of various companies, Green decided that it was time to start something on her own. In 1990, she founded Green Engineering. In 2000, ENCOS was incorporated as a joint venture between Green Engineering and Kohling & Partner.

Since 2011, ENCOS is a member of TUV Nord Group and has opened branches in Thessaloniki, Frankfurt and Greifswald. The company designs and constructs chemical industry factories and facilities, and it is known worldwide for its commitment to health and safety standards.

In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Green advised young Greeks to stay in their country, despite the harsh conditions they are facing at the moment. Even if it seems like the easy solution, leaving is not the answer. “They should fight against their pessimism,” she said. “Take risks and create new businesses.”
