The Greek Cabbage Pie That Has Conquered the Netherlands

filoxeniaGreek restaurant Filoxenia (“hospitality” in Greek) in the seaside village of Zandvoort, the Netherlands, has gained increasing reputation due to its delicious Greek dishes.

Babatsia family, owners of the restaurant, left Greece and immigrated to the Netherlands 17 years ago.  They recently celebrated 10 years since the opening of the Greek restaurant with much enthusiasm, traditional Greek dances and music.

The mother of the family, Theodora Babatsia, remains loyal to Greek tradition. She cooks fresh food every day using ingredients that come from Trikala, central Greece, and the wider region. The restaurant’s latest hit is her cabbage pie (lachanopita) made of home-made pastry, feta, spinach and cabbage. Filoxenia has many admirers while its food is the best advertisement of Greek cuisine in the Netherlands.
