Germany Seeking Doctors and…Chefs

Greek-chefs-GermanyMost hospitals in Germany are staffed with foreign doctors, particularly Greeks, because there are not enough German doctors to meet the needs of the population, as well as the fact that the number of young scientists in German universities is constantly decreasing.

However, it appears that the health sector is not the only one that faces severe staffing problems in Germany. According to Deutsche Welle, an increasing demand in staff was recorded in the restaurant industry.

German businesses are looking for new apprentices who are interested in a career in the food and restaurant industry, since a large decrease of 50% was recorded in the sector since 2007.

In a recent interview with the German broadcast network N-TV, the president of the German Association of Chefs (VKD) Andreas Becker noted that many hotels and restaurants in Germany are not able to hire enough chef apprentices, even though there are many available positions.
