More than 110,000 foreigners, including 3,498 people from Greece, acquired German citizenship in 2013, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.

Turks still hold first place, but there was a significant decrease compared to previous years. In 2013, 27,970 people of Turkish origin received German citizenship, 16% fewer than in 2012 and far less than the 100,000 Turks who became German citizens in 1999.

Turks are followed by people of Polish, Ukrainian and Greek origins. The number of Greeks who obtained German citizenship in 2013 dropped to 3.498 compared to 4.167 in 2012. Next on the list were Kosovars, Iraqis and Afghans.

Moreover, the number of British and Americans, has doubled since 2006, but still remains low compared to other countries, with 460 and 996 people respectively. The total number of passports that were given in 2013 by German authorities remained stable at 112.350.

Foreign people mostly migrate in North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden Württemberg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
