Turkey Invites 5,000 Greek Doctors

Greek doctors in TurkeyAccording to Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Mehmet Muezzinoglu, Minister of Health of Turkey, is planning on inviting 5,000 Greek doctors in order to fill part of the country’s 20,000 open job positions for doctors. The Turkish official said that the Greek doctors will have the chance to work as interns at university hospitals, while he also revealed how inadequate medical care is in his country.

Muezzinoglu noted that Turkey is in need of 20,000 doctors, while he also noted that “Universities are in need of assisting doctors. At this point, if someone needs ten doctors, we can only provide three. In Greece, doctors have to wait long to receive their specialization. However, if we are in charge of their specialization in Turkey and help them learn Turkish, then we will be able to cover our country’s needs for assisting doctors.”

Furthermore, the Turkish Minister of Health added that during the next few days, the Turkish government will make the necessary legal arrangements in order to implement the training plan for specialization in coordination with the Supreme Education Council.

He also noted that health education in Greece is at a very high level. “We need to shift the attention of Greek doctors to Turkey and not Germany. We have the necessary infrastructure for specialization here,” he said.
