The Greek elementary school in the village of Agridia in Imbros, Turkey, which was confiscated for nearly 50 years, was given by the Turkish authorities to the Greek community in order to operate as a middle school and high school.
This development comes after the reopening of the elementary school in Agioi Theodoroi with a small number of students. The village is the homeland of the Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew.
The concession of the school was signed by the Turkish Eparch of Imbros. The school was given to the newly founded Educational and Cultural Association of Imbros, in the presence of Lakis Vigas, President of the Association and representative of minority institutions in the General Directorate of Turkish Vakoufia, and Ioakim Kampouropoulos, vice president of the Association and vice president of the Imbrians‘ Association.
This concession paves the way for the reopening of the school after almost 50 years, when the Turkish authorities had taken measures to minimize the Greek element in Imbros.
