Exhibition Commemorates Istanbul-Based Greek Movie Professionals

turkey-cinemaIstanbul Turvak Cinema-Theater Museum and Art Library, are honoring the Greeks of Istanbul‘s cinema industry with an exhibition as part of the 100th anniversary of the Turkish cinema.

The exhibition, which will be held until June 29, entitled “Istanbul’un Rum Sinemacıları” (The Greeks of Istanbul in Cinema) includes more than 100 historical documents, photographs and film posters from the collection of Sula Bozis and the TÜRVAK archive.

The exhibition pays tribute to the contribution that Istanbul-based Greek movie professionals have made to Turkish cinema. It includes the sections “Movie Theater Owners and Managers,” “Producers and Distributors,” “Actresses and Actors” and “Directors of Photography-Sound Editing.” The exhibition provides information on Istanbul-based Greek film professionals including Petrakis Raftopulos, owner of the Odeon Theater; Yorgo Saris, owner of Elektra Film; Orestis Laskos, the director of the 1953 film “Pera Güzeli” (“Pera Beauty”); Dimitris Meravidis, “the first cinematographer in Balkans”; Dimitris Panuryas and Dimitris Alataris, owners of Sponeck Pub; Kimon Spathopoulos, who played the leading role in Şarlo İstanbul’da (1954); photography directors, Ioakim Filmeridis, Manasi Filmeridis, Kriton Iliadis and Kosta Psaras; editing directors Diamandi Filmeridis and Alekos Aleksandru and sound engineers Yorgo Iliadis and Marco Buduris. 

The exhibition is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Mondays.
