MEP Chatzimarkakis Demands the Return of the Greek Sculptures

A symbolic event for Hellenism was organized yesterday outside the Glyptothek in Munich, demanding the return of Greek sculptures and cultural treasures. Representatives of the Greek diaspora were led by MEP and President of the Greek European Citizens Jorgo Chatzimarkakis. The venue chosen was truly the ideal place for the event as it hosts sculptures of the temple of Aphaia on Aegina, Greece, the so-called “Aeginetans.”

As Mr. Chatzimarkakis stated, “The heart of Greece is its civilization. The country’s place and presence in contemporary Europe is based on it. The Greek civilization was the yeast in the dough of the European culture, but some people forget that.” He also called those responsible for the destruction of modern Greece to understand that Greece will rise again from its culture. “Respecting this civilization requires a clear attitude of the Europeans to the Greek demand for return of the wealth to the place of its creation. We want the Greek sculptures and treasures to go home,” continued the MEP.

Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, along with the president of the Pancretan Federation of Europe Yiannis Epitropakis; the president of the Cretan Association of Munich Manolis Kouioumtzis; the president of the Association of Macedonians in Munich, Theodora Tzitzilaki and Rena Tsonga, member of the board of the Pancretan Federation of Europe, raised banners outside the Glyptothek, demanding the return of the Greek cultural treasures.
