The Greek Wooppers Ηit London’s Market

wooppersChryssa Adrakta is the creator of the Wooppers shoes in Greece. The Whooppers are made by natural wool and produced with the wet felting method; the wool is scrubbed with green soap and water so that the microfibers on the surface “bind” together forming a material of excellent quality felt. This felt takes its form around a shoe tree in order to get the proper shape.

“I saw the economic recession as an opportunity to try something new,” noted Chryssa Adrakta. The Greek entrepreneurial initiative with the name Wooppers is expected to enter the demanding market of the United Kingdom within the next few days. Although the initial conception was made back in 2002, the Wooppers became widely known relatively recently, as the first production workshop was built in October 2013. The products are sold through an online shop which Ms. Adrakta manages.

“I’ve always had a love for the sensation that this kind of footwear gives you. I bought once in London a pair of slippers from Kyrgyzstan and afterward decided to try my own version. I started reading and experimenting. After the fortieth pair, I decided that my technique had reached a very good level and I started testing my products on customers,” Mr. Adrakta stated.

The production is handmade and very time-consuming. The Wooppers cater to people with a love towards natural and handmade products, people who care about their personal comfort and well-being.
