Samaras to Present Priorities of Greek Presidency

The Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras will be presenting the goals that have been set for the Greek Presidency of the EU. The presentation will take place at the plenary session that will be held on January 16.

The ceremony that will officially signal the start of Greeceā€™s presidency for a six month period will take place on January 8, in Athens.

The ceremony will be attended by the college of EU commissioners. After the ceremony, they will take part in an inaugural meeting that will be held at the Zappeion Hall.

Greece is targeting for a financially balanced presidency that will not require spending more than 50 million euros. In order to achieve this goal, the Greek Prime Minister has decided that the vast majority of the events will take place in Athens.

Among the priorities of the Greek presidency are the EU banking union, the maritime policy, illegal immigration and youth unemployment.
