Greece’s Antenna Group Snaps Up Romanian TV, Radio Channels

Building-ProSiebenSat.1The German ProSiebenSat.1 Group sold its interests in Central and Eastern Europe.

The broadcaster sold Kiss TV as well as radio stations Kiss FM, Magic FM, One FM and Rock FM to Greek Antenna Group, while its TV channel Prima TV was sold to Romanian media businessman Cristian Burci.

The Romanian acquisition by Antenna is the latest stage of the Greek broadcaster’s plan to enter new markets in South East Europe. The group has indicated that it is preparing to further expand geographically based on recent successes, such as its investments in PRVA Montenegro, Planet TV in Slovenia and PRVA Televisija in Serbia.

Theo Kyriakou, CEO, Antenna Group, stated, “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to acquire these market leading assets in a country as significant as Romania. These represent Antenna’s first presence in Romania and we look forward to working closely with management to help them grow even further. Antenna Group is committed to expanding its presence in South East Europe. This is the latest stage in our growth strategy.”

In Hungary, the TV channels TV2, FEM 3, PRO4 and Super TV2 were acquired by the current management team.

The deals were signed late last week, on December 20 and December 21. All deals will be closed in the first quarter of 2014.
