Concert Against Racism in Munich

concertThe Greek Pontian Association of Munich organized a concert on Tuesday afternoon against racism to support the Voulgaridis family. The concert was held in the Gasteig Megaron. The lyre was the dominant musical instrument  which united the Germans and the Greeks. It was a night dedicated to humanism and solidarity. The audience captured by the sounds of the lyre, were taken on a journey to different parts of the world.

On June 15, 2005, the nazi organization NSU murdered 10 people who included one Greek, Theodoros Voulgaridis, in addition to eight Turkish and a German police woman.

The families of the victims had suffered a lot the last years due to long-lasting investigations and trials. The German State had assigned Barbara Jon to be the mediator of these families. Jon speaking to Deutsche Welle commented the unifying power of music. “People were deeply shocked with the murder of 10 persons by neo-Nazis filled with hate. This concert is a unique meeting as what happened affects and unite us all.” she said. “Theodoros Voulgaridis loved art and music. He was volunteering in the Pontian Association of Munich. He was trying to bring people together through the music and I believe that he finally made it.”
